Little Sprouts Forest School

Forest School Leaders- Junior Explorers

Our History

At Little Sprouts Forest School, we are passionate about nurturing leadership in children and young people. We believe that growth comes from investment and what you put in is what you get out. This is why we encourage every learner to take ownership of their journey and Junior Explorer's was created! Every child deserves the privilege to become a thriving and ambitious adult.

Who Is This For?

Our extended Leadership Courses (Junior Explorers) is designed for children and young people aged 10–16 years. Starting from Year 6 through to Year 11 we aim to teach and allow nature to inspire. Ensuring pathways for career development in outdoor education is an option and encouraging the transferable skills  approach to develop their own careers pathway in what industry they decide to double down on.

With qualified teachers, assessors and Forest Schools specialists we want to train, develop and support children to fall in love with nature and link key life skills with transferable skills to succeed.

We work with:

  • Upper Key Stage 2 (Year 6)
  • Key Stage 3 (Years 7–9)
  • Key Stage 4 (Years 10–11)

This ensures a consistent and progressive pathway, supporting learners as they develop confidence, independence, and leadership skills.

What We Offer

We provide both school-based programmes and community programmes giving children the opportunity to engage with Forest School during term time and school holidays. This allows those with a passion for outdoor learning to continue developing their skills with ongoing support, helping them grow into confident young leaders.

Why Forest School for leadership?

We see Forest School as a nurturing key to unlocking the future potential of children and young people. Through hands-on, nature-based experiences, we build resilience, independence, and essential life skills that extend far beyond the woodland setting all in a way children can learn through life experiences and a hands-on approach.

Learning Through Experience

The time we spend with our learners is invaluable. Rather than focusing on theory alone, we prioritise practical, real-world experiences across schools, community groups, and placements — ensuring every young person gains meaningful skills from the very beginning.

Our leadership opportunities have led to outcomes against :-

  • increased school attendance and truancy
  • influenced behaviour and attitude towards other subject areas in school
  • Allowed children to increase their own self esteem and confidence
  • Supported healthy coping strategies and techniques
  • Motivated young leaders into inspire others family members
  • Empowered children to value and improve their mental health

Erasmus Darwin Academy

Tania Powell, Pastoral Lead-

“Chris and his team have been supporting our EDA students for 3 years now, they have delivered well planned engaging  sessions to our students.

The support and intervention especially throughout Yr6/Yr7 transition has been invaluable, helping our students settle into year 7 overcoming barriers.

Our KS3 students thoroughly enjoy being outside learning new skills including making fires,  wood carving, team games and cooking (pizza being a favourite)

Our students have embraced the opportunity to develop their skills and experiences.
